A Data-Driven Look: The Best IHG Hotel Redemption Values

A Data-Driven Look: The Best IHG Hotel Redemption Values

While I do enjoy writing comprehensive "Best Use" posts where I dig in and look for deals, I also love data... This post is more of the second.

My "Data-Driven" posts are posts from unique data we've gathered.

Recently, I got curious what a database would look like with every IHG hotel's lowest rate and points price. Then I could divide the cash price by the points price and get the highest ROI hotels. I did that, and this post is about my findings.

I'll give the hotels with the highest rewards values overall, per category, show a map with hotel values, what the most expensive IHG hotels in the world are, and conclusions based on the data.

Also, make sure to check out the...

New Singapore Award Chart and Chart of Changes

Best Use of Singapore KrisFlyer Miles

Singapore KrisFlyer Miles are worth discussing, not just for the sweet spots on the award charts, but because of the abundance of ways to earn.

Each of the three big transferrable bank points transfers 1:1 to Singapore Miles: Chase UR points, Amex MR points, and Citi TY points (plus, Marriott 3:1).

This post however is not about earning, it's about occasions when you may want to transfer to Singapore Miles. Whether it's the cheapest flight to Hawaii you're looking for, or availability due to the ability to book partners 352 days out, there are many reasons to use Singapore Miles.

In this post I show the new Singapore Miles award charts we made, a Singapore Miles Award Map, a chart to compare/contrast with AA miles,...

The Cheapest Hotels To Earn IHG Points

The Cheapest Hotels To Earn IHG Points

I like the timing on this as it follows my How To Earn IHG Points With IHG's Promos. This post has a list of the cheapest ~200 IHG hotels, map of the cheapest 1,000+ hotels, the best of the cheapest hotels, etc...

This is part of a bigger project and post. I already have the points price for every hotel of the major chains, and in finding the cheapest cash rates for each hotel, then I can give an objective / data-driven answer to the most valuable redemptions.

On the other side of the coin, I'm using the data to find the cheapest hotels in the world.

I mentioned that earning at scale requires some creativity, and I believe knowing the...

Gimmewald, Switzerland

Our Awesome Trip To Switzerland’s Alps

Largely due to once seeing Rick Steve's recommendation of Gimmewald, Switzerland, it has been on my bucket list for many years. Last fall we made that dream a reality and it was amazing.

I try not to be hyperbolic or recommend every place I've been (which it seems most travel bloggers who haven't been a ton of places do), but this was as amazing to me as our recent trip to Havasupai Falls in Arizona.

In contrast, there are many places I don't recommend, even on that trip.

Which is all to say, this part of Switzerland is actually amazing. The other parts of Switzerland I've been to are super scenic, don't get me wrong. But this trip was amazing.

Master Chart of What Sites Search Airline Award Availability

Master Chart of What Sites Search Airline Award Availability

Updated: April 30, 2019

This post was originally created in 2014 and I wanted this to be on the updated Resources page...

But I must say, a lot has changed since 2014. The first 3 charts are the alliance award charts (how to search for Star Alliance, Oneworld, and SkyTeam award availability), and those can almost entirely be searched by one or two partner sites now.

Thus, now I believe the most valuable chart here is the one on how to search for non-alliance airlines award availability.

The [Only] United MileagePlus Award Chart

The [Only] United MileagePlus Award Chart

I realized that United no longer publishes an award chart, and the one I had on my "Complete List of Airline Award Charts" is outdated, so I decided to make one of my own (and update the list of charts as well).

This post has the United Miles Star Alliance Award Chart, and also a United Miles Award Chart just for United flights.

I also made a world map of Star Alliance prices with United miles, or as I call it, a "United Miles Award Map".

And then I...

Best Use Of Marriott 35,000 Point (cat 5) Free Night Certificate

Every year, the Marriott Chase credit card gives a free night certificate at Marriott hotels up to 35,000 points (category 5 hotels), which is well worth the annual fee.

Plus, Marriott has regularly run promotions where you get a free night certificate up to 35,000 points (most recently for new accounts).

There are many great hotels available with this free night cert, including 22 Ritz-Carlton hotels and 13 St. Regis hotels. (I'll share my list of those hotels). A free night at many of these hotels is a great deal.

So I'll go through and share my top picks from around the world,...
