I realized that United no longer publishes an award chart, and the one I had on my “Complete List of Airline Award Charts” is outdated, so I decided to make one of my own (and update the list of charts as well).
This post has the United Miles Star Alliance Award Chart, and also a United Miles Award Chart just for United flights.
I also made a world map of Star Alliance prices with United miles, or as I call it, a “United Miles Award Map”.
And then I discuss the intra-region short range discounts.
United Miles Star Alliance Award Chart
All miles prices are oneways and by the thousand.
(Add 5,000 miles each way to Alaska).
Intra-region discounts
Every single region has a discounted mileage flight for flights under 800 flown miles.
Globally, all intra-region flights, except three, charge 8,000 miles if they are under 800 flown miles.
The three exceptions are: 1) All flights within Hawaii are already 7,000, and 2) flights within Japan are only 5,000 miles if they are under 800 miles.
3) It also states that flights within the US are discounted to 10,000 miles for flights under 800 miles. However, as I’ve written, there are many flights in the US already 5,000 miles with their new pricing.

Since it’s wordy, let me clarify, this award chart is just for United miles on United Airlines flights.
It is nearly identical to the first chart now, but business class is consistently 10,000 miles more.
Conclusion
I thought the Star Alliance Award Chart is more important than ever for two reasons.
1) if United does fully switch over to a dynamic pricing system on United flights and not Star Alliance partner flights, it could make partner awards more valuable.
2) I was needing it when looking for sweet spots for my recent Guide to United Stopover Tricks. I’m not only looking for good values for free flights but looking for cheap business class segments to add before my free segment so the free segment can also be in business.
Again, I’ve added these award charts to the Complete List Of Airline Award Charts, which I think is a better resource for bookmarking.
Hope others find this useful!
Glad someone is documenting these things. Thanks!
Thanks for reading!
Yep. Here in Australia looking for Star Alliance flights in United Miles, I found this very helpful. Thanks!
Wow, brilliant work!! Your knowledge of this industry has impressed me for a while. One of the airlines should certainly snap you up as an analyst… you’d probably get to fly free but traveliswork just doesn’t sound as good..
Anyway, this is in regards to the 12,500 miles U.S. domestic flight on the nice Star Alliance chart.
I was wondering: how is it possible to fly a Star Alliance partner, or any non-U.S. carrier for that matter, on an entirely U.S. domestic itinerary? Aren’t foreign carriers disallowed by FAA from flying flights that originate and land in the U.S. even as a codeshare? Wouldn’t United just operate that flight themselves under their own banner?
Or does this only refer to the U.S. leg of an international trip booked on a Star Alliance partner?
