The last weekly [currently bi-weekly] Newsletter talked about how to earn points from free nights, along with other things. And kind of along those lines I had an interesting experience at check-out just over a week ago.
Recently I wrote how to get free nights via Hilton’s Best Rate Guarantee. In this case the new DoubleTree in Bucharest was on another site for $60-something, so I booked and did the BRG. And it adjusted my rate to 10 Euro, like this:
At checkin we were fine. The bill actually said 10.8 Euros, which is fine. However at check out she said it would be 90 Euros!
I explained that I did a BRG (for $60 something) and they took off $50, making it 10 Euro.
She explained how she saw the 10 Euro rate but decided to change it to the standard rate because “we never have rates that low”.
*Blinks*
She just up and changed the rate because it was too low? Furthermore, this is her company’s policy, it’s not like I’m scamming them. I just filed a BRG… I guess they don’t get those often here.
So the conclusion was that she was going to not charge anything, keep my card on file and ask management about it. She had me forward the email for Hilton and she, now having my email, will let me know what they charge.
I’m certain that I will not be charged anything more than 10.80 Euro. Certain. If they contact Hilton, Hilton will tell them it’s a legit low rate with $50 taken off. However, that still hasn’t stopped me from daily checking my email, hilton.com and my Chase card expenses for any update. None.
In fact Hilton.com doesn’t know what to make of it.
But when I click view receipt, one of two things happens (depending on where I click from):
Or
So far I’ve been charged nothing. Unfortunately, does that mean I won’t get the fixed 500 miles and points? (Although earning points with Hilton is a joke, especially if you are paying 10 Euro). My guess is that either A) She forgot to ask and it’s just going uncharged. Or B) They contacted Hilton and are waiting to hear back.
Perhaps, I’m posting prematurely as it’s only been a week… but has anyone else had this happen?
Don’t get me wrong I’m fine if she doesn’t charge me. There are cheaper ways to get miles… but it’s already a win-win for me going into this.
I did not receive my newsletter. Anything I can do?
Sorry for the confusion. I posted this a week or more after the newsletter went out. when I wrote this it was the day after and right after I posted I edited it to say last week instead of yesterday. So if you signed up right before this post, it would actually be after the last newsletter went out.
