- Conclusion
Thai Airways has an excellent business class product even though it was a little overshadowed by the superstar line up on this trip. Despite Bangkok feeling like home, it was my first time ever flying Thai Airways. Thai wowed me every step of the way, but after I’d processed it, the product was more normal than you think. Here’s what I mean.
- The business class lounge is great. Spacious and the food is great (because Thai food is great) even though the selection is small. Why is the lounge wowing? Because they have a spa! Business class passengers get a 30 minute massage (head, shoulders & back) and first class passengers receive a full body oil massage. What an incredible way to start a flight. But after I think about it… massages in Thailand are really cheap. So how much value is it adding? Not much, but it’s still cool.
- When I boarded my first flight I sat right behind first class, divided by the curtain. They immediately handed out menus and I right away checked it out. It looked like a 5 course meal. “Did they hand me the first class menu?” I thought. During the taxi I chatted with one of the flight attendants and told him that I thought it looked like a good menu and he said, “wait till you see the food.” That being said, it was no first class meal but I was definitely not hungry afterward. It was better than most airplane food but not as wowing as the flight attendant had hyped up. But seriously, I do love Thai food.
- The seat. I’m realizing my pet-peave is an angled seat. When we board Thai Airways, you notice how slick the seats look. And indeed they are nice but I sleep 100% better on seats that lie completely flat, meaning parallel to the ground as well as my body lying flat. I feel like I sleep standing up…
Lounge, food, seat and last but not least, the service was great. Thai Airways has a good reputation for a reason. However, if I have to sleep I would prefer Singapore Airlines or better yet, first class.
