All Wyndham hotels cost 15,000 Rewards points… Which makes earning 15,000 points the same as earning a free night certificate. Free night certificates are fantastic for high end properties.
The problem is, I couldn’t figure out how to book many of the nicest hotels touted by Wyndham Rewards properties.
Due to Wyndham’s latest promo, giving 15,000 points for two nights, I decided to do some research. I figured out why many of the all-inclusives sometimes appeared not to be bookable, and discovered a bunch of other nice hotels.
This post will discuss:
- Booking All-Inclusive Properties with Wyndham
- The nicest Wyndham Hotels in the world
- Suite rewards and other options
(If you’re just interested in my list of best Wyndham hotels, scroll past the all-inclusive section).
Booking Wyndham All-Inclusive Hotels with Rewards Points
Arguably, the best use of Wyndham Rewards Points is to book one of their “VIVA” all-inclusives for 15,000 points. Many of the hotels go for over $300 a night.
However, there are two major problems when booking VIVA All-Inclusives:
1) Availability.
2) Minimum number of nights when booking.
Solutions:
- vivaresorts.com has a calendar of availability
- vivaresorts.com shows night minimum – which I’ll list below
However, the problem with the calendar of availability is that it does not show rewards nights, and thus rewards nights could be out. The difference is likely caused by the calendar mentioned above showing all cash rooms, and rewards nights are only for standard rooms.
About the VIVA hotels
- Dominican Republic:
- Viva Wyndham Dominicus Beach – La Romana
- Viva Wyndham Dominicus Palace – La Romana
- Viva Wyndham Tangerine – Cabarete
- Viva Wyndham V Samaná • Adults Only – Las Terrenas
- Viva Wyndham V Heavens • Adults Only – Puerto Plata
- Mexico
- Viva Wyndham Maya – Riviera Maya
- Viva Wyndham Azteca – Riviera Maya
- Bahamas
- Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach – Grand Bahama
Not every hotel offers the same amenities, and possibly some do not even offer free wifi “in room”.
Night minimums for VIVA hotels
I particularly dislike the 3 night minimum on some of these hotels because I’m earning my 15,000 points from this latest promo on different accounts, and there’s no way to combine them.
Nonetheless, if you earn from the card this might not be a big deal. But if you’re like me, you may have to focus on the properties without a minimum number of nights.
Here are the minimums:
- Dominicus = 3 night
- Palace = 3 night
- Tangerine = 3 night
- V Samana = 3 night
- V Heavens = 2 night
- Bahamas is 1 night
- Riveria Maya = 3 night
- Azteca = 1 night
Of the ones with 1-2 night availability:
- V Heavens is the best availability, but lowest nightly rate (and still requires two nights)
- Bahamas has limited availability and good value
- Azteca has almost no availability and great value
Isn’t that how it goes…
Best Wyndham Rewards Hotels In The World
After a lot of searches, this is my list of the nicest and most valuable Wyndham Hotels in the world:
- Hotel Henri, NYC
- Hôtel Dolce Frégate Provence, Saint-Cyr-Sur-Mer, France
- The Mining Exchange A Wyndham Grand Hotel & Spa, Colorado Springs
- Aspen Meadows Resort
- The Mills House Wyndham Grand Hotel, Charleston, SC
- Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Beach Resort & Spa, Rio Grande, Puerto Rico
- Silverado Resort and Spa, Napa, CA
- Wyndham Grand Chicago Riverfront, Chicago
- Wyndham Grand Clearwater Beach, Florida
- Wyndham Canterbury, San Francisco
- Wyndham Austin, Austin
- Wyndham Reef Resort, Cayman Islands
- Ramada Udaipur Resort and Spa, Udaipur, India
- TRYP by Wyndham Jerusalem Bat Sheva, Israel
- Ramada Khao Lak Resort, Thailand
- Ramada Plaza Bangkok Menam Riverside, Bangkok, Thailand
- H4 Hotel Arcadia Locarno, Switzerland
- HPlus Spa Engelberg, Switerland
Honorable Mentions:
Anything in Switzerland (Geneva, Zurich, Basel, Engelberg, Solothurn).
Vancouver, NYC, San Francisco, Napa Valley, Park City, Toronto, Boston, Santa Monica, Istanbul, and Phuket, Thailand.
A number of nice hotels in China: Shenzhen, Kunming, Hangzhou, Qingdao, etc…
In Turkey: Ramada Resort Bodrum, Ramada Resort Lara, and Ramada Resort Kemer (not open?)
Hawaii:
- There are hotels on: Kona, Maui, Oahu, Kauai,
- Some hotels require 2 nights
Best use is 2 bedroom suites?
Here’s an example of the Ramada in Dubai, an already often expensive hotel, but both the one bedroom and two bedroom suites are available for 15,000 points:
In USD, that’s a $600 a night rate.
Another example with: Silverado Resort and Spa, Napa, CA
Here you can see the Silverado Resort has a suite (bookable for $400 cash) available on points.
To be honest, I wish I had been checking for this throughout my research.. But perhaps if you see one you could comment and I’ll add it to the list below:
- Silverado Resort and Spa, Napa, CA – Cottage suite
- Ramada Dubai – 2 bedroom suite
- Wyndham Hotel Melbourne, Australia – 2 bedroom suite
- Ramada Plaza Bangkok Menam Riverside, Bangkok, Thailand – Including lounge access
Conclusion
Wyndham does not have the brand consistency that Hyatt or Marriott has, but they have enough great hotels that I want to hit this latest promotion hard. (I’ll do a follow up post on the latest promotion).
It’s actually a great combo. Low end hotels to earn free nights at, and then a few great redemptions in various regions of the world.
Wyndham is not a great brand. But 15,000 Wyndham Rewards points has some great uses.
Glad to see the post!
One thing to note about “standard” room on Wyndham all inclusive does not necessarily mean the cheapest room for the same dates. I spent hours searching where to use my 60,000 points and noticed that cheapest rate was ~$320 per night but my standard room was only ~$500 and this was the “garden view” room (Viva Azteca).
Also another thing to note, I have had good success is finding availability at most of the all inclusive when I was looking but I was individually searching the dates that I wanted instead of going to the “calendar” option you talked about. Even during Christmas and New Years holiday period they still have availability for me and pretty much most of the spring time that I looked up.
DUDE, I thought you gave up on blogging! Can’t remember the last time I saw new content from you. Are you going to be posting regularly going forward?
Would love to see that!
So excited to see a post from you. This made my day. Hope your new business is going great!
+1
+1!
So happy to read a post from you after so much time. As usual, this was a great post. Thanks!
Thank you for posting a great post. Your mailing list is not active yet. All the best.
Caveat Emptor: Wyndham “Guests” BEWARE! I qualified for a free night’s stay at a local Atlanta hotel. Upon registering, I presented my credit card for identification purposes ONLY. (this was understandable) The result was: The hotel charged my card for the “going rate” and when asked to refund the charge, it took taking the matter to their Corporate Office AND 30 days to receive a refund for a charge that should have never occurred. This sounds like an unfortunate oversight; however, if you multiply my situation by five or ten thousand “guests” you’re talking SERIOUS money. Funds that were available for Wyndham’s use – interest free – for 30 days! I subsequently filed a complaint with the FTC and will submit this same information to the IRS, asking them to look into this “unscrupulous business practice. The IRS will have a field day with this “promotion!
Welcome back! I keep checking for new posts about once a week, and also come back to check the resources, such as hotel maps. Hope you’ll be blogging again – one of the best!
I’ve been checking the Riviera Maya Azteca and, as best I can tell, it is also 3 night minimum (on paid or reward stays)
I booked (Oct 2017) and stayed at the Azteca Feb 2018. When I searched for 1 night I found nothing. I had to search for 3 nights to get rooms to show up. Now maybe if I called on the phone maybe you can book 1 night once you search for 3 nights and see that there are some nights available??? I did not think to try that. I had already planned to stay 4 nights.
Hopefully this means the best blogger in travel is back!!
George of Travelbloggerbuzz is back?
How come I never got the bonus points I’m staying in Chico ca June 22 and 23. Never got any xtra points
I would put TRYP NYC way ahead of Hotel Henri in NYC. I also think the Bonnet Creek property in Orlando should be on the list. Hope you get back to writing more regularly!
I LOVED Wyndham Bonnet Creek in Orlando!!!
ive never been to new York were in sc and thought we would fly there so is it easy enough to get from airport to tryp nyc hotel or did you drive? we are kind of budget friendly people so trying to find best way with each of us with one carry on and staying for 5 nights anyway. hubby lkes lots to do so im hoping we can keep busy even if no car. any suggestions would greatly be helpful.
Thrilled to see you writing again. You are the best out there. And this post reflects that!
Do you have any info on how to sell a wyndham timeshare? We have been wanting to sell for over a year, but don’t know where, or how to start.
here is a resource for timeshares, http://www.tug2.com
It is a Timeshare User Group forum….some people give away their timeshares, sell them for $1 or even offer closing and prepaid maintenance just to get out from under them, learned about this site years ago, and snicker at any timeshare sales people I see.
So happy to hear from you!
So are the all inclusive fees covered with the 15,000 points?
I booked four nights on points at the Viva Wyndham Dominicus Beach resort last November. It cost me $0. No fees, taxes, etc. Got upgraded to the Palace upon arrival as well (two resorts, one property). I’d stay there again. Food was meh, but location and facilities were great.
I’d absolutely add the Vegas hotels from the Total Rewards partnership to this list. Caesars, LINQ, Planet Hollywood, The Cromwell, and Paris would all make the list in my opinion.
thx for the AI list for Wyndham…I recently stayed at 2 cheap properties in Fla. and earned 15k for a promotion…I then used it at a beachfront resort hotel in Fort Walton Beach Fla….while not AI, it was a great resort that included umbrella and chairs on the beach…and no pesky taxes or resort fees were charged.
So you just have to keep putting in random dates in order to find any availability at the all inclusive properties or is there an easier way? I’m assuming if the rooms/rate page comes up and it doesn’t show a go free award option at the top then it’s not offered on those dates?
The Tremont House & The Hotel Galvez are 2 beautiful (& among the best) properties in Galvrston, Texas (both Wyndham Grands). Easy to book standard rooms with points then get free suite upgrades (2 rooms, 800 sq ft) with Platinum status (from the WR cc).
Glad to FINALLY see in-depth research of this often overlooked brand. I always find availability with WR & rooms are easy to book & redeem.
The Napa cottage property is a HUGE deal, right on the golf course & situated among some of the best Napa wineries. Total remodel & very nice & comfortable.
I am so glad you are back and writing again Drew. I have checked atleast 2 dozen times this past year hoping for a new post. I hope all went well/continue to be well with your startup.
welcome back – as usual with a high value post 🙂
Great to see you posting!!
Thanks for the Great Post!!!..would love to sign up for your mailing list when active.
Good to see your writing again! Hope there’s more to come!
How do you book CaeSars Las Vegas hotel using Wyndham points
I just booked the Silverado Cottage King. I can update how it was.
There are hundreds, maybe thousands of 1 bedroom condos for 15K per night. Sent Wife & Daughter to Bonnet Creek 1 Br and they loved the space, especially being able to cook and the place was real nice. I also use 15K in Atlantic City @ TR properties on weekends when rates are high and having Wyndham Diamond gets a suite. Have TR Diamond but don’t gamble much so offers for free nights are scarce. Looking forward to the new Wyndham Grand opening in Barbados & I believe another in Nevis. Have saved up enough points for 20 night to date.
welcome back drew, you really are the best travel blogger around 🙂
Viva Samana V Dominican Republic is impossible to book online for ANY DATE and the customer service reps are completely useless.
