You may have noticed that sometimes I post a mistake fare on my sidebar or post just for a little bit and then take it down. The common question then becomes, how do you find mistake fares?
I hate to give away my best secret in fear that you won’t need me anymore! That I’ll be replaced. But the truth comes out. First there is no real science to finding a mistake fare, it’s just word of mouth. Sometimes I get emails from people who trust me and expect to be given the same level of trust. I’m grateful for such people and I now try to include them on my secret deals. However, once a deal gets posted on flyertalk (and I’ve booked it for myself), I may post on here, at least in the side bar. So besides word of mouth, here it is…
Google’s RSS Feed Reader. I sub flyertalk’s “Mileage Run Deals” and “Hotels Deal“. So I get notifications in the top right when someone posts a new thread. This is how I found and booked the deal last week of the Sheraton in Mexico for $18 a night (sea view with club lounge access) and this week Guitart Gran Hotel for 10 Euros a night (a 5 star hotel in Spain). They go quick and therefore I need the updates.
The deal I posted the other day of Hong Kong to some atlantic island for $352 was just getting lucky on Kayak Explorer. Most of the time, it’s the RSS feed reader. This is such a valued secret that I may take down this post after a while.
Of course, if you have an RSS reader, you can subscribe to me… (Or subscribe to daily emails. Don’t miss a post!).
