First, I just wanted to update people who used a link earlier. It appears that my old Refer A Friend link is dead (no longer giving the 2,000 point bonus for a stay (and definitely not because of the point limit on referrals)). So if you have just registered via my link and you haven’t stayed yet, consider signing up again – click here.
If you sign up and stay via my link, we both get 2,000 points per stay, up to 10,000 points. (And I have a total cap too). However, I’ll show you how you can do this for yourself. 😉
As mentioned, both the person referred and the person who gives the referral get 2,000 points, up to 10,000 points. If you stay 4 nights and complete the Megabonus promotion (go to your promotions page when you login to register), you’ll not only get your normal points but 8,000 extra points for signing up via refer a friend. Then you’ll earn the 2 free night certs from MegaBonus.
Marriott is really not a bad way to go to earn free nights.
There’s a way to double this
One spouse could use my refer a friend link and then create their own refer a friend link to refer the other spouse. Then when you check in under the second spouses name, spouse 2 earns 2,000 points per stay and spouse 1 earns 2,000 points per stay. Make sense?
So if my Dad signs up and then refers my Mom… when my Mom checks in, not only does she earn 2,000 points for checking in but my Dad earns 2,000 points for referring her.
So why should my Dad sign up via my link? Well, what if Mom hits the 10,000 point bonus limit and then they have another stay. Well, at least they can earn 2,000 extra points on my Dad’s account.
Marriott is not stupid
To be blunt, you could create a second account for Dad and have Mom refer Dad or rather Dad’s second account… even though he was the one to refer her. Â But you shouldn’t. You may get in trouble, or they will at least shut that link down. I know they at least keep tabs on me.
* I know you guys watch me. One example is that I’ve never added Travelisfree.com as my company on my account or done anything remotely close to that. But I saw that it was listed on my checkin form recently.
But there is a legal way around it
However, your Dad could sign up (via my link here) and then refer You. Then you could refer your spouse. That way two of you are always earning when you stay. Make sense?
The best part about it is that my Dad could allow me to use those 10,000 points earned for referring me… but really from my stays. But you can book award nights for other people. In this case Dad can be replaced with anyone with an address. Right?
In any case, this is just a way to earn a little bit more with your stays. Â If you’re going to create an account and if you’re going to complete a Marriott mega-bonus promotion anyway, you may as well earn as you do. Any questions about the bonus? It’s pretty straight forwards I guess…
* Also, I noticed that sometimes the refer-a-friend email never sends. However, this is crucial. The email that your friend receives has your code in it (you can’t just take the url from the mock email after sending). Anyways, if you get that url from the referral email, let’s share the love. Please, post your referral url below (if you figure it out). While obviously I’d like free Marriott points, feel free to use any that people post below and post your own!
And to show what it looks like, mine is http://joinmarriottrewards.com/Friend/us/enroll.aspx?promo=MGMD&ref=d4932b50-d83c-45c6-864a-deba98f6ff0f
Can I refer my wife (with the same residential address)? And then will both my wife and I earn bonus points whenever she checks in?
