One block away from the center of Times Square is the InterContinental New York. It is nearly everything I want in a hotel but it is most fitting for someone who wants to see Times Square and all the action -and in typical New York Style.
My preferences are almost always for modern rather than antique, location rather than having large rooms and high floors. Given the situation, we were on a floor that was high enough, as the view is what matters. The rooms were a little small but as to be expected in New York City. But what really makes this hotel 5 star quality is it’s attention to detail for the finer things in life. The rooms are not huge but they are fine. The bedding has a quilted texture, and the room has an intentionally simplistic design. It’s the little things that make a hotel great. Not just perfectly clean – which it was, but great. Like rain showers, it’s a small thing to make a shower great.
I got a letter upon check-in outlining the list of perks for Platinum members and on it were upgrades to executive rooms. That nearly doesn’t matter as there is no executive lounge in this InterContinental. The place was almost completely sold-out and we received no upgrades but were content.
For 50,000 points it should be awesome. We payed 50,000 points a night and booked it the day before we checked in (as it just seemed to open up for us). It’s pretty easy to earn 50,000 Priority Club Points in my opinion but I prefer burning them much slower.
Was it incredible? No, it wasn’t the InterContinental Hong Kong, but it’s more than the average 4 star hotel. I don’t honestly see myself staying again because I’ve done the Times Square thing and New York City touristy stuff quite enough over the last few years. Plus, I just like trying new hotels and that’s what the InterContinental New York Times Square was.
