Recently we decided to spend almost 2 weeks in Fiji. Most of our time was spent in the InterContinental Fiji and the rest exploring Fiji.
So we’ll break up the trip into three simple parts:
- Exploring Fiji
- The InterContinental Fiji
- Fiji With Miles & Points
Fiji is everyones dream destination yet it’s easy to get to and stay at for free (with miles/points). With Star Alliance you can get there via Air New Zealand and as you may know, I love Air New Zealand’s Business Premier (and you can create a stopover in New Zealand if you’d like). Unfortunately, you have to book far out to get Business Premier tickets on this route and even then it can be scarce. However, Fiji is well worth the travel in economy.
We loved our time there but I have to be honest; what you came to see is not the main island or it’s chain hotels. Getting out on the string of islands north of Nadi was the experience of a lifetime – the Yasawa Islands. There is something about the pacific ocean meeting those mountainous islands that makes it magical. The water was crystal clear and the coral was beautiful. Fiji is famous for it’s soft coral. In certain parts of the Yasawas you can swim with manta rays and of course there are all kinds of fish.
If we were to go back it would be in these islands instead of most of our time on the main island. Staying at the local resorts and hopping up further into their chains of islands. This is where Fiji was magical to us, this is where the stunning views are and this is why people go back year after year. Although we only saw a few islands there are so many to explore and even the main island is big and you could spend a long time driving around. But lets be honest, no one goes to Fiji to drive around in a car but in a boat.
A pictures worth a thousand words, but too bad I don’t have an underwater camera…
The pictures look really awesome. I am looking forward to read your trip report, and hope to learn the process of how you book the flights and hotels. Thanks.
Thanks for the comment. That’s a good idea, so much so that I added a third part to focus on flights and hotels. Thank you.
