We visited Hong Kong 3 times in the last year or so and the last time we were there we stayed at the Courtyard Marriott. It was a very pleasant surprise. It managed to be the nicest courtyard, by far, that I’ve ever seen… with the smallest rooms I ever saw. Tiny! But it was still awesome. There aren’t too many Courtyard hotels (that I’m aware of) that are considered 4 star hotels. This one certainly is.
Real quick- what makes this really great is that it’s a category 4 hotel and price ranges from $200 – $300 a night. Who cares? Well, if you’re unfamiliar with Marriott’s promotions, they always have a promo where if you stay two nights you get a free night at a category 1-4 hotel. Thus, is you found a $50 hotel and stayed two nights, you would enjoy your stay, points, elite night credit and a certificate for a free night… that can be redeemed here.
This hotel is a top choice for using a category 4 cert not just because of the prices in Hong Kong but because of the quality of the hotel. It is modern, chic and has great staff. All downsides didn’t bother us and the perks were great. Mainly; 1) It is a nice hotel, 2) it was free, 3) it had a great lounge and 4) it has a decent view.
Marriott never lets me down with lounges. Again, you can get Marriott Platinum status free, which gives you lounge access and other goodies. It has a good spread of food both in the mornings and evenings. Although the lounge is also tiny. I mean it takes up half a floor but in this thin hotel, that isn’t saying too much.
The hotel is slightly out of the way but does have a free shuttle to the business areas. So it’s not the hottest area of the main island a hotspot like Kowloon, and there’s nothing really cool around the hotel but it is a very short ride to the city center.
Yes, the rooms are small (21sqm/226sqft) but they are high quality and there are only great views in Hong Kong (if you’re facing water). The room is cozy, has a good bed and nice shower. It has all the essentials and provides them with quality.
All experiences in Hong Kong are pleasant. While the Courtyard isn’t the InterContinental Hong Kong, and certainly can’t compare to the view, still, it has much of the charm of Hong Kong. Outside my window was an eagle flying around looking for food and in the distance were boats coming and going to many of the islands that are considered part or the great city.
