This miles and points community is… the best!
Because of two posts on this blog, we raised $2,220 towards Rachel and Zack’s adoption in Ukraine. This is a huge fundraiser for them. Huge! I’ll take a minute to thank everyone involved and share a few personal thoughts.
I think this fund raiser is a reflection of this community. I don’t know all my readers personally, but I’ve met many and know that a number are passionate about things that matter. Maybe not adoption, or this adoption, but things that matter. For that, I’m proud.
Wanted to give a shout out to some of the donaters. Big thanks to:

On A Personal Note
I’ve always felt passionate about adoption. First off, I was adopted and my younger brother was adopted, both as infants. So I, in no way shape or form, view anyone else as my parents except for the people who raised me. There is no practical difference for me, since I don’t remember being birthed.
Adopting orphans needs no clarification on why it’s a noble thing. Unfortunately, not all adoption infrastructures are good. No need to dwell on that either.
That is to say, adopting is one of the most impacting things you can do. Takes a child from a terrible situation, and in this case, places them in a great situation. And in order to make sure the home is a good one, there are all kinds of expenses along the way. Plus travel expenses.
Thus, I think long term, I would love to help more families like Rachel and Zack adopt. Or who knows, help Rachel and Zack adopt again. At this point, I’m not sure what it will look like to provide help, but this was a step in the right direction.
Because of my convictions, because we love and support Rachel and Zack and believe in what their doing… the fact this went so well means a lot to me.
Thank you everyone who donated, shared, retweeted, and read this blog.
I have read somewhere – in the so called pre-civilized world, there were no orphans. The children belonged to the entire community and the community took care of all children. So, what orphan, just BS. Now as we have become more “civilized” people started thinking narrow mindedly. Thus many evils crept in our society as did good things. Adoption is the greatest service anyone could ever do to fellow humans. There are plenty of kids tagged as orphans and so are there many who are without kids and adoption acts as a wonderful force in uniting humanity. This is greatest love that one can shower on others. It is because of those great selfless beings who are willing to adopt, humanity still thrives. Unfortunately, it is becoming extremely prohibitive economically as you have rightly pointed out. I too support some kids for their studies every year through charity organization but haven’t ventured in to adoption yet but would definitely do in the future when i get enough money. I think Rachel and Zack are really blessed for doing such a great service. Really moving. Also it was very touching to know that you too were adopted. May God bless your entire family.
Rats, how did I miss this!!!!???? I want to help, too! We are in the process of adopting our 7 month-old and it is definitely a financial strain, but well worth it! However, God will provide for us and I’d like to pay it forward! How can I do so???
Ok, found it! 😉
