I’m starting a series and making a new personal goal.
After yet another suite upgrade I’ve been convicted. Actually, it first hit me at the Mayfair Marriott in Bangkok. We got upgraded to a two bedroom mammoth of a suite and it was just my wife and I. Since it wasn’t a special occasion we wanted to share it. I got on couchsurfing and looked to see if anyone needed a last minute room but nothing came of it. Honestly, it felt like a waste.
See for us, it was nice but it was by no means a special occasion. We live in hotels. Seriously. I mean sometimes we stay with a friend but otherwise we are full time travelers with out a home and in hotel rooms night after night. And this time we left a 5 star hotel, switched hotels and got our two bedroom suite.
What good is a suite for two people? It’s goofy. We don’t watch TV. Honestly. We don’t even turn it on and there’s always one in every room. In some really nice hotels they have it in the bathroom too. And we only use one bed and the desk. Sometimes the couch. At the this Marriott we had really 5 rooms and used 1. (Actually I used the bathroom down the hall sometimes just to feel as though we made use of our place (but I also didn’t want to dirty to much for housekeeping)).
So today I’m announcing that we are going to start giving more of what we have a lot of. Travel. And you can keep me accountable because I’m going to write about my experiences and share them in a series called “Gift of Travel.” There aren’t a lot of stories to share yet but I better start collecting them.
Really, it’s a special thing to give someone an opportunity that they would have never had without your miles/points hobby. I’m realizing now it’s a better feeling than having it all to yourself.
