The PointBreaks list is out, bookable Jan 25 for stays through April 30th. Again, I decided to make a map that’s below. And the list is here.
IHG’s PointBreaks list is a list of hotels you can book for 5,000 points a night, for this limited time. Normally I say hotels go quick… but this list is another one that lacks anything too exciting.
But once the unknown number of determined rooms is booked, the hotel is taken off the list and the price goes back to normal. Below is the map, and if you see a hotel that would work for you before the end of April, book at this much discounted rate. If you’d like to learn more read Intro to IHG PointBreaks, or Complete Guide to IHG Rewards Points.
Highlights
There’s nothing I’d go out of my way for.
- Crowne Plaza West Hanoi would be most interesting to me.
- Dusseldorf would be great if you avoid winter.
- Belfast’s “Holiday Inn Belfast City Centre” would also be nice, if it’s not winter.
- I might check out the Holiday Inn Batam just because I’m curious, as it’s a short trip from Singapore.
- I’m not qualified to comment on the CPs in Japan.
- The Holiday Inn in Bangkok is a good location, but if you have a good promotion, you could spend like $60 and earn points. If not, it could be a good deal.
Again, I’m pretty down on the list, but then again, PointBreaks is really about saving points on a place you’d already go. If you’re going to be at the Atlanta Airport, why not stay at the Hotel Indigo?
Thanks for the map! I noticed a small error – the Holiday Inn Express Roslyn – Manhasset Area is not in the right spot on the map.
Yah, this one not so good, though the last one worked for me (on my way to Bali in a few hours, in fact). I won’t be tempted to spend on other stuff when I need them for nights elsewhere.
The only one that could work for me too was the one in Batam but I read it’s a really industrial area, just typical city? I’m going to try to couchsurf in Singapore, I’ll be there for Chinese New Year and that’s probably better than in a hotel…
CP japan is definitely good value – 1 minute access to Shinkansen okayama station which is a major stop between Hiroshima and Osaka.
Still remember 3 years ago when I was able to book the presidential suite using just 15000 pts when IHG system had the glictch
Thanks, Drew. I would have missed this without your blogpost. It went live at 12:01 pm EST. I got my booking in. Crowne Plaza in Kitchener-Waterloo Ontario, Canada. A fun way to spend a couple of days with the kids over the March (Spring) Break. Indoor swimming pool, fitness room, play room, arcade and mini-bowling alley in the basement. In case your wondering, this city is the corporate headquarters for Blackberry. Since that company has downsized and fallen on hard times, there’s a lot fewer business travellers in the KW area now. This hotel has been a PointBreaks hotel twice in the last 6 months.
It seems the location of the hotel on the map is incorrect.
Holiday Inn Express Roslyn – Manhasset Area
I agree the list is lackluster but I was pleasantly surprised to see my hometown on the list – Holiday Inn Townsville Australia. I urge people to consider visiting Townsville. It’s next to the Barrier Reef, rainforest and outback and is a very vibrant regional city. With the Aussie dollar plummeting against the greenback now is a great time to visit. I’ve found it very easy to get free flights to and from there using my AA miles and even scored a First Class flight to and from Oz in September! So if you’re thinking of going to Australia, put Townsville on your map. For 5000 IHG points its a steal and you’ll love the people, lifestyle and weather.
Pointbreaks are a great deal if you definitely need a place to stay & suddenly the area you’re going to popped out!
Flying to Memphis in April and the one I’m eyeing (close to the airport) suddenly went on the list, so I booked it! Flying to Dallas in March, but sadly no Pointbreaks hotel there – mostly Houston. Oh well!
Thanks for the list & the map!
I’d stay at the Holiday Inn Panama Canal if I were headed back that way soon (going back in October). Besides being right next to the canal’s Miraflores viewing platform and museum, the hotel is very convenient for exploring Sobernia or the the other national parks in the former Canal Zone, assuming that you can get easy transportation to and from them (I’d rent a car). It’s also convenient for the Amador Causeway and the Biodiversity Museum, the train to the Caribbean coast, etc. Most of the Panama City hotels are in the financial district further to the east and not as convenient for tourism.
Hi Drew, it seems that Holiday Inn Express Portland-Jantzen Beach is not on the list.
Thanks as usual for taking the time to map these out.
Does IHG have much of a presence in Carribean/Puerto Rico?
