I wanted to make this a great post on Hyatt suite upgrades – whether it’s booking a suite with points, using a suite upgrade on a paid stay (or cash & points), or using free nights from the credit card for suites, this post will help you find the best suites at any Hyatt.
I decided to make a chart of all the Hyatt hotels with the suites you get with upgrades and their estimated value (except Hyatt Place and Hyatt House and ineligible hotels for suite upgrades). Unfortunately this chart turned into a big project because I was manually searching to try to get the most accurate info. Dumb, but hopefully this will show you the most valuable suites and sweetest upgrade options.
But first let me quickly explain 2 ways you can end up in a suite using points.
2 ways to get a Hyatt suite:
1) Just use more points.
Just as Hyatt gives you the option to redeem points for a standard room, they also have an award chart for suites. For example, paying 8,000 points at a category 1 hotel, instead of 5,000 points, gets you a suite.
To see complete details check out the Hyatt Complete Guide section on Redeeming Hyatt Points.
2) Using a Diamond Suite Upgrade
Once you earn Hyatt Diamond Status, you get 4 suite upgrades to use on paid stays. Luckily there are two cool tricks about this. First, you can do a Hyatt Diamond Challenge (open to everyone) to get Diamond status after 12 paid nights. Second, once you get the upgrades, you can actually use them on cash & points rates.
A few notes and why book a suite?
The main reason a lot of people book suites is because people like fancy things. The rooms are usually nicer and what not. Otherwise there are two common reasons, at least why I personally would pay more points for a suite.
First, many suites often come with club lounge access. Simply read the description of the suite during your search and most of the time you’ll see that it comes with access to lounge, and sometimes breakfast. I’ve seen other goodies too. For example the Hyatt Regency Saipan which “includes 2 spa treatments”, which is pretty cool. And I’ve seen others just come with breakfast or free minibar or something like that.
The second reason I’ve used a suite upgrade, is if I’m traveling with friends or family. There are a few hotels that give actual suites that have separate sleeping areas. For example, down below I list 15 bookable suites that are all over 100 sqm (1,076 sqft). Usually you can tell by the description whether or not they have separate sleeping areas.
But also, it may say the maximum number of adults, or you can just try making a booking of your own with cash and see if the suite comes up.
Do note that suites can’t be booked with points online, you have to call. Same with suite upgrades.
Best Suites at Hyatt Hotels
So what are the most extravagant suites you can blow your points at? Well, I’ve wasted spent a fair amount of time looking for the best suite options and here’s what I’ve come up with. (For the record, 100 sqm is 1,076 sq ft).
The chart is pretty big, so I’d first like to give some of the findings.
Here are some of the most expensive Hyatt Suites and how much it costs in points to book them.
Park Hyatt Zanzibar – Park Suite King (100 sqm) $1,325 = 32,000 points for a suite
Unbelievably, this hotel has its lowest level suite consistently pricing out at $1,325. And this isn’t like Paris and Zurich, where the standard rate is already nearing $1,000 a night. Instead, the standard rate can be as “low” as $300 with tax, or less, making it a possible amazing use for people with more money than me. Although, given how new the hotel is, I wouldn’t be shocked if the prices of the hotel drops after a while.
Park Hyatt Shanghai – Park Suite King (130 sqm) $1,194 = 32,000 points for a suite
This is probably the biggest suite on the list, and it’s one of my most favorite hotels in the world. Never do I care about the hotel as much as the destination, but this would be close. The hotel is on floors 79 to 94, making it one of the highest sitting hotels in the world. Super modern, super big, and super expensive.
Park Hyatt Zurich – Park Suite King (72 sqm) $1,618 = 48,000 points for a suite
There are a ton of expensive suites on the list, but this is the most expensive.
Park Hyatt Tokyo – Park Suite King (100 sqm) $1,060 = 48,000 points for a suite
The hotel is everything I expect from a Park Hyatt (we got a room on floor 52 (I think), which still gave the skyscraper feel).
Biggest Hyatt Suites (with upgrades):
- Park Hyatt Shanghai, Park Suite King (130 sqm) $1,194
- Park Hyatt Sanya Sunny Bay Resort Park, Suite King (124 sqm) $710
- Park Hyatt Mendoza, Park Suite (110 sqm) $293
- Park Hyatt Hyderabad, Park Suite King (110 sqm) $233
- Park Hyatt Dubai, Park Suite (109 sqm) $587
- Andaz Peninsula Papagayo Resort, Andaz Suite (109 sqm) $495
- Hyatt Regency Chongming, Regency Suite King Room (107 sqm) $326
- Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur, Grand Suite (105 sqm) $445
- Hyatt Regency Tianjin East, Regency Suite King (103 sqm) $174
- Park Hyatt Zanzibar, Park Suite King (100 sqm) $1,325
- Park Hyatt Tokyo, Park Suite King (100 sqm) $1,060
- Grand Hyatt Jakarta, Grand Suite (100 sqm) $677
- Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi Hotel and Villas, Park Suite (100 sqm) $434
- Grand Hyatt Goa, Grand Suite King (100 sqm) $289
- Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa, Garden Suite (98 to 128 sqm) $761
- Grand Hyatt Bali, Grand Suite King (98 sqm) $345
Just to give some perspective if you’re not used to square meters, I’ll give it in square feet. 100 sqm is 1,076 square feet, and 130 sqm is 1,400 square feet.
Although, I will say this list is maybe less indicative to value, considering that some of these hotels have large standard rooms. Still, I think anything over 100 sqm is enormous.
Park Hyatt Mendoza is normally only 8,000 points and the “Park Suite” (110 sqm) is available for only 13,000 Hyatt points. Amazing considering that it’s one of the largest suites.
Park Hyatt Shanghai, here’s a picture from the largest suite bookable.
Best place for upgrades on paid stays:
The goal here is to find a hotel that is relatively cheap, but has an awesome expensive suite.
Keep in mind that you can use your Citi Prestige to get the 4th night free, as explained by FrequentMiler, who has done some interesting tests on the benefit. The point here is that you can pay for 3 nights in a standard room, and get 4 nights in a suite. Given that most weekends are much cheaper, you could start your 4 nights on a Friday and you’ll get Monday morning reimbursed, yet you’ll still earn points on the expensive night.
Hyatt Capital Gate, Abu Dhabi Capital Suite (70 sqm) $322. Cash rate I found was for $87 a night, which makes an upgrade to a $322 suite more attractive.
Park Hyatt Goa Resort and Spa, Park Suite King (85 sqm) $438. The cash rate at this hotel was around $113 and my guess is that sometimes it’s a lot cheaper. While there are many hotels that are cheap in India, this is one with the luxury brand name of “Park Hyatt” and with a particularly impressive suite.
Hyatt on the Bund, Shanghai Bund Suite King (80 sqm) $484. I found paid rates around $161 a night and possibly lower.
Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa, Deluxe Ocean Suite (84 sqm) $1,099. Don’t think I’ve ever paid $255 for a single night at a hotel, but if you were going to Maui, this suite brings in $1,099 a night.
Other honorable mentions:
- Hyatt Regency Dusseldorf, Regency Suite King (72 sqm) $791 for $228.
- Grand Hyatt Istanbul, Grand Suite King (80 sqm) $567 for $230.
- Grand Hyatt Jakarta, Grand Suite (100 sqm) $677 for $297.
- Grand Hyatt Singapore, Grand Suite King (83 sqm) $840 for $320.
But seriously, most of the cheapest hotels are in India. One of the cheapest was the Hyatt Amritsar ($62 a night). Same with China, there are lot of cheap hotels, and generally speaking, hotels in China are very nice.
Cheapest points for nice suite:
For merely 8,000 points (or 2,500 + $50 with an upgrade cert) category 1 hotels can be booked into a suite. A very low amount of points and yet you can get a suite worth a fair bit of money. And these suites are fairly large.
Hyatt Regency Kinabalu, Regency Suite (89 sqm) $288 = 8,000 points
Hyatt Regency Kathmandu, Regency Suite King (80 sqm) $515 = 8,000 points
Park Hyatt Mendoza, Park Suite (110 sqm) $293 = 13,000 points
To the chart of Hyatt Suite upgrades:
Note: The “hotel price” is for a standard room, and all prices are based off of a single date, or a few. Prices can wildly vary and these prices might be very different when you go check. However, values of suites usually go up and down at similar rates as the standard room. Prices are before tax and without any discount.

What I learned:
Common advice has been go to the hotels’ “rooms” page and click “suites”. I did this for every single hotel and many hotels don’t list all their suites on this page, and just include the presidential suite or something… which you’re clearly not going to get using your upgrade certs. And there were a few I just couldn’t figure out.
One thing too good to be true, that I was skeptical of, was the Hyatt Regency Jersey City on the Hudson. The cheapest suite seems to be a Hudson Suite, and the suite seems to bring in $1,000 a night. But the only suite listed on the suites page is the Bridal Suite, which goes for $1,539. If this was the suite they gave you… that’s quite an upgrade for a hotel that’s sometimes pretty cheap. I didn’t list it, because I wasn’t sure what to make of it, but someone should try an upgrade there.
Yet another fantastic resource! Just curious — can DSUs be used to get upgraded rooms at the all inclusive properties, such as Hyatt Zilara Cancun? If so, do you know which room they get upgraded to since it is an all suite property?
Thanks.
There is an award chart for AI properties with suites. Seems that’s 40,000 points. http://hyatthotels.hyatt.com/content/partnerlandingpage/en/goldpassport/zilara-ziva-benefits.html
Not sure what suite it is, but maybe goes from “jr suite” to “suite”. No idea.
Here’s my post on AI’s btw: http://travelisfree.com/2015/02/17/all-inclusive-hotels-using-points/
Had great cash and points stays using a Diamond suite upgrade at both the Park Hyatt Mendoza,Argentina and the Hyatt in Santiago Chile. Both were terrific stays where we were treated extremely well. In both cases, we were upgraded to the Diplomat Suite, huge beautiful spaces. In Chile, that included a small kitchen with separate access for staff and an amazing terrace that was almost as large as the living room. We have loved our Diamond status and are going to make sure to always keep it. Hyatt is our preferred hotel choice.
We’ve stayed at the Grand Hyatt Santiago, and love the lounge bringing up sushi from the japenese restaurant.
Incredible upgrade though. I’m a lowly platinum these days.
this is a great post, as many of your posts are. I do like the way you think in terms of comprehensive global picture to assess/optimize values and sweet spots. a few (hopefully easy) suggestions: 1) would it be possible to make a new column for the multiplier (suite rate / cash rate) and made the columns; 2) a column for how many points for a suite night; 3) suite size as a separate column; 4) the columns could have buttons to order them in ascending/descending. seems like this project took a lot of effort (thank you for that!) and maybe the little tweaks / improvements are something to come back to later..? or perhaps some loyal reader of yours could run with it and fill in the blanks?
This post is a keeper. Thanks for the info. I had a question. We are staying one night in Istanbul…would you suggest the PH or GH?
I am just curious how you end up with such awesome suites? When I book a room with a diamond suite upgrade the suites they give me are just blah. You mentioned Indianapolis Hyatt Regency – I have stayed there quite often and never have they given me the deluxe suite as an upgrade. So what is your trick? Do you specifically ask for the particular suite you want? I’m just not doing this right I think. Thanks! 🙂
Excellent information….thank you! Where is this article going to be filed on “The Best(Miles/Points)Page On The Internet?” Another “go to” page from Drew!!! Thanks again
Than you Drew again and again! Excellent post!
Great post Drew. I stayed at the Hyatt Regency Jersey City in Novemver using a diamond suite upgrade. We did not get the bridal suite, we got the Hudson corner suite. At the time, the Hudson suite showed up on the website. Great suite with a fantastic view of NYC skyline.
Keep in mind that some hotels won’t honor DSU’s on Cash and Points rates…recently a hotel told me they would honor a DSU for an all-cash rate, but the C+P DSU was ‘unavailable.’
The DSU at the Hyatt Union Square is not the Empyreal Suite, but the Alcove Loft. Similarly, the Andaz 5th Avenue is the Splash Suite (not Loft Suite) and Park Hyatt Chicago is the Park Executive Suite (not Park Suite).
Actually that isn’t correct either. The suite upgrade at the PH Chicago is the Grand Executive Suite, which they only have 3 of apparently. This makes it pretty difficult to use your DSU here sometimes.
Another fantastic post Drew! I have to commend you on the consistent high quality of your posts, which makes your site a must read, IMHO. We just got back from a Japan trip and stayed in suites in GH Tokyo, Hyatt Hakone and PH Tokyo. GH Tokyo – very nice suite on 10th floor, good view, fanciest bidet toilets out of all 3. Hyatt Hakone – smallest suite of the 3 (not that it was small), but off the bedroom we had a great enclosed patio with windows that opened up and a slight view of Mt. Fuji. PH Tokyo suite was on 45th floor, great view toward Shinjuku station, largest of the 3 suites, but a funky layout to the bathroom (it was like a hall of mirrors in there)! Sorry can’t recall the names of the suites we got, but just thought I’d add our suite experience for anyone interested. Thanks again for your great post.
Great post! Will keep this info for our next 2 year’s of travels.
Can you list your Top 10 Hyatt properties suites (not in terms of $$ but location/lounge/view etc.)?
Very comprehensive! Thank You!!
Amazing write up. I’ve probably already spent 3-4 hours on this page. One thing I might add would be the category of each hotel in parenthesis next to each hotel so we can figure out which are the best deals for points with cash. Thanks again Drew.
Well done, once again Drew. You’ve really carved out a niche with your ideas/posts. A trailblazer in the highest order.
Thanks for the info. I see that Hyatt Diamond suite upgrades can’t be used at M Life properties, which is unfortunate. Does Diamond status translate into any benefits at all at M Life properties?
Park Hyatt Chicago is listed above as 831sq meters…it’s actually 831sq feet
@ Drew – this is an awesome article, as usual, but I’d like to point out that not all hotels upgrade to lowest-level suite listed. For example, at Grand Hyatt Tokyo you get Grand Executive Twin or Grand Executive Twin which are 100-sq. meter suites and which cost about the same as a suite at Park Hyatt Tokyo.
FWIW, during out trip to Japan we stayed at suites at both hotels (Park Hyatt and Grand Hyatt). Other than the views, we actually preferred a suite at Grand Hyatt Tokyo. It’s newer, brighter/better designed, has better beds, and just overall feels fresher. Of course, it’s all a personal preference and, let’s be honest, when picking between the two, you can’t lose 🙂
FYI – HR Kyoto now offers proper suites (and is permitted in the DSU program); may want to update the page. Otherwise, awesome resource! Good job!
I don’t know if this is an isolated event but I was able to use a DSU for my cash + points stay at Hyatt Carmel Highlands, a Hyatt residence club. I got booked into the Ocean View Townhouse Spa Suite.
Good article. That tables needs one more column – Category, or P+C price. I use DSUs, but don’t ever pay a lot (even $250 is a lot) for hotels. So I stay away from Category 6 and 7.
It’s really awesome!!!!! Thanks for info
