UPDATE: It’s now up and bookable here.
I always get super excited about the PointBreaks list, and if you’re not familiar with it, read Carrie’s post on IHG PointBreaks. But this one is a bit of let down for me. First, there are only three InterContinentals on the list:
- IC Beijing
- IC Phnom Pehn
- IC Mendoza
That being said, there are a number of fine hotels across China and other places. Of course, China in February isn’t so fine with me.
Other interesting options include:
- Holiday Inn Vanuatu
- Crowne Plaza Harare-Monomotapa in Zimbabwe
- Crowne Plaza Asuncion
Meh, I can’t come up with anything else. Normally I can’t wait until booking day, but this is a b-list of hotels if I’ve ever seen one. Even the IC Phnom Phen… I mean, I love Cambodia andΒ may even be in the area then. But it’s already a cheap IC. Compared to the last list with the IC Tahiti, the IC Johannesburg, etc… This list in terms of $value, is pretty lame.
Unless… am I missing something? Doesn’t this list seem thin? At least in Asia my pickings seem slim. A $40/night CP in Indonesia is barely even worth using 5,000 points for. All the hotels are northern China, or northern Japan, so also not worth it in winter.
But it always comes every two months. I’ll be waiting for the end of march.
Yeah I wasn’t too excited with this list either…. Ah well there’s always March!! π
That’s what I tell my friend when he doesn’t like the list. “Hey, wait two months”.
Just finished off a map of all of the properties, take at look at it here you’re interested: http://weekendblitz.com/blitz-deal-ihg-pointbreaks-march-31-2014/
Thanks!

Nice. I wish Asia was filled in a little more this time. :-p
Intrigued by Vanuatu…trying to figure out my post-spring semester break and I was thinking about doing some crazy routing there anyway.
IC Beijing is great if I can get it since it’s only a 20 minute subway ride from where I’m doing observation rounds in March in the local medical schools/hospitals…fingers crossed that 1. points I earn this weekend post quickly 2. it doesn’t book up too quickly. That would be pretty hilarious to shack up in the IC instead of paying more money/night to stay in student dorms…
Any idea on how long it takes points to post? I know some of the bonuses can take a while. I got an 11,000/pt package per night and I understand they give you coupons for those points right when you check in, and they post immediately after you enter the codes on the website. IF all goes well I am going to grab something like 50-60k points on a 2 night stay, in my own neighborhood!
It can take a long time. I wish it was predictable… but it’s not. Generally it takes less than a week. But for promotions (like Big Win) it can take forever.
I still can’t find *A availability to Vanuatu!
Well, I got some of the points just a few hrs after checkout (11k rate bonus and stay and IHG premier member gift bonus- they offered me 500 points or a bottle of water and a powerbar. That’s one expensive bottle!) I’m assuming promos
Unfortunately I was stuck in class taught by the founder of my school so by the time I checked, Beijing IC was sold out for all dates π Now I’m gonna have to do a combo of paid stay, more points (10-15k/night) and BRG’s wherever I can find ’em.
Re: Vanuatu- I had found a bunch of stuff to various Pacific Islands a couple months ago when I was trying to concoct this crazy Oceania routing from Japan (that is on hold indefinitely now). I think I was having problems finding a roundtrip to anywhere that fit my schedule, but what I saw was that it was fairly easy to get to, say, New Caledonia one way and Fiji the other. Then fly Air Vanuatu in between, which was not super crazy priced (I think like $1-200 a flight?). Higher than ultra budget, but maybe offset by free stay at the hotel? Oceania is relatively expensive no matter what, so might as well see 3 nations while you’re at it.
Does it start just one second after midnight EST or PST or ?? on January 27, 2014?
Sorry I’m late. Not sure but it’s up now.
*Phnom Penh
Thanks π

The HI Sendai in Japan is not too far from Fukushima if you are the adventurous type…
Right… the PointBreaks list is reduced to hotels near Fukushima! lol.
I’m not adventurous in that way.. In Ukraine I was too scared to do a chernobyl tour. Pass.
