The PointBreaks list is now shown but not really open. It will open for booking August 26th. The reason I’m posting a pending list is because there is currently a sale on IHG Rewards points that ends on the 26th. Right now you have a chance to buy the points- enough points for any hotel on the list- for $28. If any of these hotels works in your schedule for Sept or Oct, you should really consider buying the points now!
Again, I know I talk about this PointBreaks thing a lot, but if you’re unfamiliar, it’s a list of hotels that you can redeem for 5,000 IHG Rewards Points. The deal is that when it opens, 1) there are limited rooms on the deal and 2) it’s only good for stays in the next two months (until Oct 31 in this case). Furthermore, if you have the credit card you get 10% of redeemed points back.
In my opinion, this is one of the worst lists in a while. Only two InterContinental properties and few Crowne Plaza hotels. But, I kind of expected that as soon as I heard it would be open for booking overlapping with the sale of points.
The Points Sale
This is a targeted sale but basically, log in and check if you can get it too. When I log in to buy points, I see a 100% bonus.
Go here, log in, and click “purchase points” on the right side.
Again, it’s essentially 5,000 points for $28 (or $25 for 4,500 if you’re a credit card holder). And you may notice that I’m basing my pricing off of the cheaper amount of 26,000 points or more.
The thing about buying points
Points don’t post right away. Hopefully it won’t take more than a week though. Plus, booking doesn’t start until Monday, and the list isn’t great anyways. I doubt many of these will go too quickly. I mean, perhaps the IC Kiev will sell out in a week. But even then, it’s an odd locale.
Is IHG strapped for cash or have they nailed this?
Did anyone else notice that IHG was selling a ton of points during the last Daily Getaways promotion? Like a ton. They were selling points in much higher quantities than usual and they were also featured two days in a row instead of the usual one. And here they are selling at the same cheap rate. What’s the deal?
The most interesting thing is that they were selling these points at the beginning of PointBreaks (even though points don’t post right away).
I mean they have nothing to loose, as there are limited rooms anyways. It seems like a great way to promote the selling of their points.
