We just had a wonderful trip to an island in Greece called Zakynthos. It was incredible for so many reasons.
1) The island is beautiful.
When I first saw a picture of this place, I knew it was my kind of place. We booked tickets and that’s that. The pictures don’t even do justice. Plus, the pictures just show two snapshots from days packed with fun activities like boat rides, scooter rides, and cliff jumping.
2) It was our 2nd time couchsurfing as a couple and it was the finest of experiences. We hosted many people in our brief stint of renting a house. Last time we were hosted was a year and a half ago on the island of Saipan, which was also an awesome experience. Except, I have to say, Zakynthos is more awesome. That said, both hosts were awesome.
The experience was so incredible that it demands a post of its own. We got the hook-up through our new friend, Niko. He is not only one of the most giving people we’ve met, but everyone is his friend and that worked out well for us.
3) Niko, our host, owns one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. There was a plaque on his wall for an award stating “Best Restaurant in Greece” for 2012-2013. I don’t know who it was from as those were the only words in english, but it seemed to impress every Greek who walked in. Both the plaque and the food, as the restaurant is one of the few non-touristy restaurants.
Emails & Comments
I apologize for being behind on emails and replying to comments. Our host had his internet out until our last day there, and we were busy anyways. Working on it. Feel free to email me now!
The future of us…
Well, we are now a full time traveling couple again. That’s not actually too new as in our few years of marriage we haven’t had “rent” for even a year total. Our last house in Charlottesville was a short lease. But that’s not the exciting news.
Actually the news isn’t out yet but I want you to look out for a bunch of new things happening over the next month. New projects and such. I’ll say this about one project: Whenever I watched Anthony Bourdain, I would always be curious about how much each meal would cost. I also value transparency. So as a full time traveler, we’re setting up our site to be 100% transparent about all our finances.
Hopefully people will also find it interesting. Yes, No? Maybe they won’t but I’m hoping other people feel the same when they watch Anthony Bourdain, or read trip reports (or use affiliate links).
Maybe we’re crazy… but hopefully for the benefit of others.
Stay tuned and keep in touch.
