“I flew business class from New York City to Santiago, Chile courtesy of my friend Drew on LAN airlines.
The service was superb. My neighbor and I enjoyed a full dinner and drinks. He was a bit of the wine connoisseur and quizzed the stewardess on their varieties, especially since we were flying into the wine country of South America. She was gracious and informative. After our conversation ended, I decided to try the lie-flat seats, which were like nothing I had experienced. Not only was there ample leg room, but the seats laid down completely into a bed. The bonnet-like back of the chair provided reasonable privacy from your neighbor, and the bed extended, so that my entire body was comfortable and flat. I’m 5′ 10”, and there was plenty of room for someone a bit taller than I am.
If the expense can be spared, these business class seats are worth it. I’d have a hard time going back to economy, especially on long haul flights.”

Again, sitting in the back was worth it to give the experience. In regards to the lounge in Lima, I was not too impressed with the food, seats and lack of power outlets, but they did have showers, a sleeping area and slow wifi. Of the Latin American airlines I’ve flown it seemed to be the most solid. Solid beds, meals and service for business class – for me, a lie-flat bed is a necessity if you plan on getting some sleep.
OneWorld and American Airlines seem to be adding more South American routes, but until then, LAN seems to be the dominant option.
